Cake automatically notifies stakeholders when their grants vest. A stakeholder gets a notification for important equity events, including vesting events, cliffs, or before unexercised options expire. This keeps stakeholders in the loop, and encourages them to pause and celebrate milestones.
Cake sends an automatic notification to the option holder the moment a vesting event, including a cliff, actually vests, since a cliff is itself just the first vesting event on the schedule. A single expiry alert also goes out 30 days before unexercised options lapse, and a reminder is sent automatically if the holder is offboarded.
Meanwhile, a founder or finance lead managing vesting across the whole team do not get notified, but can track vesting at the company level, right from the Cake dashboard.
For the exact notification settings, see the help center guide on vesting and expiry notifications.

Vesting notifications that reach the stakeholders who need them
Every option holder gets an automatic notification the moment a vesting event hits, plus a fixed 30-day expiry warning before unexercised options lapse. With Cake, you can:
- Send automatic notifications to holders at every vesting event, including cliffs
- Trigger a 30-day expiry alert before unexercised options lapse
- Send an automatic reminder to holders during offboarding
