Charging ahead in the US market
After establishing strong market share in Australia, we're aggressively expanding our US operations. With our global team spanning Australia, United States, Portugal, Philippines, and Brazil, we're scaling rapidly to capture the massive US opportunity in equity management and team motivation.
As we accelerate our global expansion, the Finance Manager role is critical to managing burn, maximizing margins, and empowering each function across multiple jurisdictions.

The role

Works closely with: CFO (external, strategic), Operations Manager and CEO
Collaboration: All departments
Top 3 priorities
- Execute BAU Finance Operations - Maintain accurate bookkeeping, payroll, and accounting across global operations
- Proactive Communication - Work seamlessly with all functions and leadership with clear, timely updates on metrics, budgets and opportunities
- Independent Ad Hoc Management - Handle compliance and reporting with accuracy, speed and agility, and implement proactive planning to increase scalability.
Key duties
Monthly
- Comprehensive reports: Cash Flow, Divisional P&L, Regional P&Ls, Balance Sheet
- Track critical startup metrics: NRR, churn, Rule of 40, CAC/LTV, location-based breakdowns
- Maintain accurate oversight of global team costs including regional benefit variations (401k, superannuation, private health, equity compensation)
- Compile data for CFO's monthly presentations (growth metrics, budget variances, unit economics, insights)
- Process fortnightly payroll for employees and contractors across AU, US, Portugal, Philippines, Brazil (manager through EOR providers)
- Calculate, reconcile and process monthly sales commissions
Quarterly
- Lodge compliance filings: BAS, IAS, payroll tax, superannuation, workcover
- Support CFO in budget setting with historical data and scenario modeling
- Prepare and collaborate on financial metrics for CEO investor reports
- Calculate and distribute global quarterly bonuses (if payable)
Annual
- Coordinate tax returns with external accountants for all group entities (including US)
- Manage R&D tax rebate applications and government grant opportunities
Ad Hoc
- Support COO on US parent company cap table and employee option management
- Handle internal finance queries, reimbursements, budget adjustments
- Manage multi-currency operations and regional regulations
- Systemize recurring expenses and payment processes
- Monitor credit and FX exposure
- Implement AI tools and automation for process efficiency
Technology & systems focus
Critical requirement: Must leverage AI tools and systematize through technology, or be determined to do so:
- Aiming for all reports in shareable, interactive formats using Google Sheets with plugins, API data pulls, live dashboards
- AI-generated financial reporting tools where valuable
- Automated process workflows
- Data automation and agent implementation
Startup Metrics Obsession: Must be passionate about tracking key SaaS metrics: NRR, churn rates, Rule of 40, CAC/LTV, cohort analysis, location-based performance breakdowns.
Global operations
US Experience Highly Valued: Experience with US company structures and taxation preferred but not required. Strong motivation to upskill in US financial regulations is essential.

Required skills and qualifications
- 3-5+ years finance experience with minimum 2 years early-stage startup experience
- Startup metrics expertise: Deep experience with NRR, churn, Rule of 40, CAC/LTV, cohort analysis, location-based metrics
- CA or CPA qualification
- Technology/FinTech/InsureTech/SaaS experience strongly preferred
- Cap table experience
- Proven track record systematizing finance functions for scale
- Hands-on Xero experience in commercial environment
- Advanced Google Workspace proficiency with interactive, shareable reporting (Sheets with plugins, API integrations)
- Cross-functional collaboration across product, marketing, sales, operations
Remuneration
The remuneration package will include stock options in Cake based on Cake’s generous policy. The range of remuneration provided will be based on experience and time commitment.
